The closest airports to Iowa City are:

  • Cedar Rapids, IA (CID) – 20 miles
  • Moline, IL (MLI) – 60 miles
  • Des Moines, IA (DSM) – 123 miles
  • Chicago, IL O’Hare (ORD) – 219 miles

 

Our goal is to make this unconference as pedestrian friendly as possible! There should be no need to rent a car while in town.

Getting to Iowa City:

We will have shuttles to and from the Cedar Rapids airport – no need to rent a car if you fly into Cedar Rapids!

Driving to the Seamans Center:

The Seamans Center address is 103 South Capitol Street. Iowa City, IA 52242.

Off of I-80.  Take exit 244 (N. Dubuque St) – South.  Go 1.6 miles.  Turn right on Market St, go one block, turn left on N. Clinton St. Go 4 blocks to the Old Capital Mall and park in this ramp.  The Seamans Center is directly to the west of the Old Capital Mall.

Once in Iowa City:

The Graduate Hotel is a block away from the Seamans Center Engineering Building, where STELLA will be held. Most eating places and many of the places of interest are within walking distance. This includes CVS, Starbucks, several local grocery stores, etc. Shuttle vans will also be available during the unconference should we want/need to drive anywhere.

Iowa City/Coralville has a pretty decent bus system. The University operates the Cambus system – no charge to ride – and both Iowa City and Coralville have substantial bus routes.

Parking Downtown:

The closest parking to the Seamans Center is the Capital Street Parking Ramp (adjacent to Old Capital Mall).  The 2nd closest is also the ramp for the Graduate Hotel (Dubuque St Ramp – 220 S Dubuque St, Iowa City, IA 52240)

Cost is first hour free then $1 per hour in the ramps.  Meters are enforced Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Cost for Graduate Hotel guests utilizing the city parking garage is $14 for self-park and $20 for valet parking per night with in and out access.
